On September 16, 2015, 22 out of 34 identified domestic violence programs in Arkansas participated in the 2015 National Census of Domestic Violence Services. Services provided during this 24-hour survey period are as follows:
358 Victims Served in One Day
242 Domestic Violence victims found refuge in emergency shelters or transitional housing; of the 242 victims 113 were children and 129 were adults.
116 adults and children received non-residential assistance and services such as counseling, legal advocacy and support groups
112 Hotline Calls Answered
In the 24-hour survey period, domestic violence programs answered more than 5 hotline calls every hour. Hotlines are a lifeline for victims in danger. They provide support, safety planning and resources.
329 Educated in Prevention and Education Trainings
329 individuals attended 11 training sessions in which they gained information on domestic violence prevention and early intervention.
Cause of unmet request for Help
14 individual services at local programs were reduced or eliminated in the past year.
7 staff positions were eliminated and most of these positions were direct services such as shelter and/or legal advocates.
The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), a social change organization, is dedicated to creating a social, political and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists. The NNEDV was founded more than 25 years ago to be the leading voice for domestic violence victims and their advocates. NNEDV makes sure the ongoing needs of domestic violence victims are heard and understood by policymakers at the national level.
