On September 14, 2016, 31 out of 31 identified domestic violence programs in Arkansas participated in the National Census of Domestic Violence Services.
- 144 Hotline Calls Answered: Domestic violence hotlines are a lifeline for victims in danger. Hotlines provide support, safety planning and other resources. The Safe Place operates a 24-hour a day, 7 days a week crisis hotline (888-554-2501). The Crisis Hotline is answered at all times by a trained advocate. Our advocates are available to respond to an immediate crisis, provide a listening ear, safety planning, referral services and assist coming into our domestic violence shelter. Please contact The Safe Place if you need help or you are helping someone in danger.
- 357 victims Served In One Day: 276 victims found refuge in emergency shelters or transitional housing; 81 adults and children received non-residential assistance and services. Services provided by The Safe Place include:
- Protective services and advocacy for women and children who are victims of abuse.
- One-on-one lay counseling, referral to licensed counsels for individual or family counseling, as needed.
- Support groups, life-skills training, self-help groups, meal planning, etc.
- Personal hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, food, clothing, shelter, etc.
- Assistance with applying for low-income housing, public assistance, court advocacy, employment, school enrollment, doctor appointments, etc.
- We assist with filing Orders of Protection and accompany victims to court.
- Offer caring concerned support with understanding, information about domestic violence and how it affects the victims and their children.
- Domestic Violence Education
- 215 Individuals Attended Prevention and Education Trainings: There were 17 training sessions provided by local domestic violence programs on survey day.
- 9 Unmet Requests for Services: Victims made 9 requests for services that could not be provided because programs did not have the resources to provide these services. Services unmet include emergency shelter, housing, transportation, childcare, legal representation and more.
In the past year in Arkansas, 9 staff positions were eliminated for direct services such as shelter and/or legal advocates.
